Annual pay

10 of the 15 postings state annual pay. Each posting lists a low and a high end. The median low is the middle value of all the low ends for that role, and the median high is the middle of all the high ends. We publish figures only for roles with at least 5 postings. Chief engineers have a median posted range of $110,000 to $166,000 across 5 of 10 annual postings.

Hourly pay

5 of the 15 postings state hourly pay, and all 5 are for technicians. Three of the 5 come from one employer, so its pay band weighs heavily on the median. The median posted range is $35 to $58 an hour across 5 of 5 hourly postings.

Scope

  • Base pay as posted. Shift differentials and on-call pay are not included, and a few postings add a bonus on top.
  • Chief engineer postings cover owner-operated sites as well as building-engineering seats run by colocation operators and facility management firms.
  • Annual technician pay has 4 of 10 annual postings and critical facilities engineer has 1 of 10, so we do not publish figures for either yet.

Method

  • We searched company career pages and job boards for data center chief engineer, critical facilities engineer and technician roles that state a pay range, with a focus on states that require pay ranges in postings.
  • We opened every posting and recorded only the range it states. We skipped postings with a single figure or a range labeled as an estimate.
  • Where one employer posted the same pay band for many locations, we kept a few of those postings and skipped the rest.
  • We do not name employers. Postings were open when we checked them in October 2026.

This is the first edition. 8 of the 15 postings are from data center owners and hyperscalers, and most states appear once. Each monthly update adds new postings and drops closed ones.
